Literary Criticism...

Literary criticism is the process of analyzing or critiquing literature. It's main purpose is to give feedback to the author. This feedback is in regards to the message the author conveys, how well ideas are drawn out,and how vivid the concepts are. This process not only helps the author, but the reader as well. The average reader can decipher the hidden or true massages the author weaves into her or her work. This can be a difficult task to do. Often the words and phrases the authors uses can be misleading if not simply confusing. A piece of writing can be interpreted in many different ways. "However, literary criticism has changed a great deal since the late1970s and early 1980s, primarily because of the influx and influence of European works of post structuralist theory published in translation since then."(wilder 77) Literary criticism allows readers to select a reading material that they can enjoy. Its a way to promote someones work without always giving a negative opinion. Paulo Coelho's book The witch of portebello was a great book, but it had some not so positive reviews. "When you pick up a Paulo Coelho book, you know what to expect: Someone's life will be lacking. Religious undertones will be prevalent. Destinies will be sought. Someone will probably die.The problem isn't so much in the writing, but the spirituality. A small dose here and there is uplifting. And when Coelho's on and the mysticism is tempered with great writing and characters, what you get are books that read quickly and make better conversation starters than your average check-out line paperback. But when he's off -- when his books, like this one, are overloaded with platitudes about love and inner truth -- it can be a bit suffocating. Imagine being trapped in a hot room with Buddhist yogis from San Diego for two days. Yeah, that may be helpful or uplifting to the most cosmically flexible among us. But for the rest, it's hard to be at one with the cosmos when the vibes are making us all a little nauseous."-(John Burgman,Esquire.com) Literary criticism is definitely useful and important for every reader.

New Journalism (MLA Citation)

Tom Wolfe presents the fact like a story with dialogues, and scenes which make the truth more exciting. His technique of first persons point of view takes the reader deep inside his writing. "There is another girl in the back of the truck, a dark little girl with thick black hair, called Black Maria. She looks Mexican, but she says to me in straight soft Californian:

"When is your birthday?"

"March 2."

"Pisces," she says. And then: "I would never take you for a Pisces."

"Why?"

"You seem too . . . solid for a Pisces."

But I know she means stolid. I am beginning to feel stolid. Back in New York City, Black Maria, I tell you, I am even known as something of a dude. But somehow a blue silk blazer and a big tie with clowns on it and . . . a . . . pair of shiny low cut black shoes don't set them all to doing the Varsity Rag in the head world in San Francisco. Lois picks off the marshmallows"(wolf 5)

Huxley (footnote)

Aldous Huxley's "The Doors of Perception" described mescalin in many interesting ways. A cactus from Mexico called Peyote is where the drug mescalin originates from. A dose of mescalin can take a person to another level of consciousness. Huxley explained his reaction to this drug in a unique way. He noted that after taking mescalin he began to see things in a different perception. He noticed that colors were more vibrant and live. He also mentioned that his true mind aroused and this allowed him to see things with an inner light. Huxley also said that during the time he was under the influence of mescalin he was able to be more aware of the inner world. Another idea that has been suggested by Huxley is that every person sometimes needs a chemical vacation from his distasteful surroundings.

ABSTRACT

When was the last time you trimmed your nails? Dr. Marie Claire's theory that trimming nails can impair your vision turned out to be accurate. She handpicked six students from Santa Rosa College to help her do the experiment. The students then were separated into two groups. Group A was to grow their nails and trim them as less as possible. Meanwhile, Group B was asked to grow and trim their nails frequently. Over few years it showed that group A has more protein known as F4/80 which helps eye cells than group B. Since nails are mainly made up of protein the team believed that trimming nails occasionally can preserve protein that helps cell communications in eyes. The conclusion is that nails may play an important role in improving your vision.

Cubism

Cubism is an art form that highlights numerous right angles in painting and sculptures. It was a movement that started in the 20th century. At first, the concept of cubism was unclear, but after doing research ,I was able to understand this form of modern art. It reminds me of animal faces and other strange things. One piece in particular had bold colors and broken structures. There was a ladder with broken steps, but it still stands. It came across as a lesson in life. In life,we should be strong and not let the negative aspects effect us. The vibrant colors reflect the beauty of life. One can look at cubism, and imagine various things without trying to decipher its true meaning. The complexity of cubism can be misunderstood in many ways. This type of modern art might seem unimportant to some, but there are ways one can relate it to daily life.

Last winter,I visited my family in Canada for two weeks. The whole trip was very enjoyable, and the most exciting part was all winter sports. My first experience of snow tubing was the most memorable one!. I didn't have any clue what "snow tubing" was the whole time. The whole process of sitting on a tube holding it tightly, and being pushed down from the top of a hill wasn't very appealing at the first time. In the beginning, I made sure that my eyes were shut tight, and I was saying my prayers right. After the first few attempts I got over my fear, and actually started enjoying it. It was a great, and fun experience.
